Helping You Become Great
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) officially published the revised ISO 14001:2026 Environmental Management System (EMS) standard on 15 April 2026. This marks the beginning of the official transition period for all certified organizations. As your Certification Body, BRS Certification is committed to guiding you through this migration process smoothly to ensure your Environmental Management System (EMS) remains compliant and certified.
The 3-Year Official Transition Timeline:
Following the publication on 15 April 2026, the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) has mandated a strict 36-month transition window.
April 2029 Final Deadline: All existing ISO 14001:2015 certificates will expire or be withdrawn by 15 April 2029.
Audit Restrictions: To prevent transition delays, BRS Certification will cease conducting initial/new and recertification audits against the old 2015 standard starting 30 October 2027. After this date, all main audits must use the 2026 criteria.
Recommended Action Plan:
-
Conduct a Gap Assessment - Review current processes against the newly added requirements to find where policies fall short.
-
Refine the EMS Scope - Infuse lifecycle thinking directly into environmental aspect evaluations and supply chain management.
-
Train Internal Teams - Educate internal auditors, risk managers, and operations staff on the clarified definitions and change management rules.
-
Coordinate Audits - Schedule a transition audit during your upcoming surveillance or recertification window to secure formal approval ahead of the 2029 deadline.
